A True Home-from-Home

My childminding setting is first and foremost my family home, and I have made a conscious choice to keep it feeling that way.

It does not look like a nursery, and you won’t find every room filled with toys, colourful displays or nursery-style equipment.

Instead, I offer a calm, comfortable and welcoming home environment, where children can feel relaxed, secure and part of everyday family life.

During playtime, children are encouraged to choose the toys, books and resources they would like to enjoy. This gives them the freedom to follow their own interests, use their imagination and make choices about their play.

 

Play, Enjoy, Then Tidy Away

Just as we would in any family home, we learn to look after and respect our space and the things within it.

During playtime, toys and resources come out, we create, explore, make a wonderful mess and have fun!

At the end of playtime, we tidy everything away together. Children are encouraged from an early age to treat toys, books and resources with care and respect.

These simple everyday routines help children learn independence, responsibility and respect for their environment.

Once playtime is finished and everything is put away, our home returns to being a calm family space.

Calm Doesn’t Mean Boring!

Having a calm home environment certainly doesn’t mean we have quiet or uneventful days.

There are plenty of opportunities for drawing, painting, crafts, messy play, stories, music, dancing, imaginative play and age-appropriate activities.

I simply don’t believe children need to be surrounded by every toy and resource at the same time in order to learn and have fun.

I prefer to offer children choices and allow them to become involved in deciding what they would like to play with and explore.

Is My Setting Right for Your Family?

Choosing childcare isn’t simply about finding an available space. It’s about finding an environment and a childcare provider that feels right for your child and your family.

If you are looking for a childcare setting that looks and feels like a nursery, with toys and children’s resources permanently displayed throughout the rooms, then I may not be the right childcare provider for you — and that’s absolutely okay.

But if you are looking for a calm, nurturing and genuinely homely environment, where your child can feel secure and relaxed while still having plenty of opportunities to play, learn, socialise, explore and have adventures, then my setting may be exactly what you’re looking for.
