Hello, I’m Roberta
An Ofsted-registered childminder, mum of two and childcare professional based in Eastbourne.
I began my childminding journey in 2013 in Forest Hill, London, after having my first daughter. Since then, I have had the privilege of caring for many wonderful children and working alongside families from a wide variety of backgrounds and cultures.
Over the years, one thing has become very clear to me: every child is wonderfully unique.
I take my profession seriously and continue to learn, develop my knowledge and reflect on the care I provide. For me, one of the greatest joys of childminding is watching children discover the world around them, develop their own personalities and grow into happy, confident and increasingly independent little people.
My Approach to Childcare
I believe childhood should be filled with love, security, play, curiosity and adventure.
I don’t believe children need to be constantly entertained or surrounded by toys and activities. Instead, I give them time and space to explore, make choices, use their imaginations and become involved in everyday life.
I love watching children master the little things that eventually become very big things — putting on their own shoes, learning to use cutlery, helping to tidy away, making friendships, discovering a favourite story, creating something they are proud of or suddenly realising, “I can do it!”
Those everyday moments are a very special part of my job.
Learning Through Life
I’m a great believer that some of the best learning happens naturally.
We enjoy stories, music, art, drawing, painting, messy play, gardening, imaginative play and lots of time outdoors. We explore our local community, nature and the world around us, giving children opportunities to experience things rather than simply being taught about them.
I also love bringing music into our days. I play the ukulele, and music, singing, dancing and plenty of silliness often find their way into our routine!
A Little More About Me
Outside childminding, I have plenty of interests of my own.
I love being active and outdoors. I sail, I’m a goalkeeper in a women’s football team, and I also enjoy boxing. I love the challenge, energy and confidence that sport brings — although I’m equally happy slowing things down with music and playing my ukulele.
I’m also a professional declutterer and organiser. I love creating calm, functional spaces and finding practical ways to make everyday life feel less overwhelming. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that organised side of me finds its way into my childminding too — I believe children thrive when there is a reassuring rhythm to their day, clear boundaries and a calm environment, while still having plenty of freedom to play and explore.
And of course, there’s Fifi, my tiny Yorkshire Terrier, who is very much part of our family. She adds another little bit of character to our home and gives children the lovely experience of being around a family pet.
Together with my family and little Fifi, this is a real family home — and that sense of home is at the heart of the childcare I provide.
What Matters to Me
At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief:
Children deserve to feel safe, respected, valued and loved.
I want the children in my care to feel that they can be themselves. I want them to laugh, get messy, ask questions, make mistakes, try again, develop independence and feel proud of what they can do.
My home isn’t a nursery, and I don’t try to make it one.
It’s a home where children are welcomed into everyday family life, given opportunities to explore their world and supported as they grow.
And after more than a decade of childminding, I still feel incredibly fortunate to be part of those precious early years.
